Since users can access Sense technology in two separate ways, this article clarifies which option to select when the Sense app asks you to choose a setup path.
Sense technology can be accessed in two different ways:
- Option 1: Energy Monitor [link to section below]
- Option 2: Electric Meter [link to section below]
Option 1: Energy Monitor
A user may install an Energy Monitor into the electric panel within a home that allows the Sense app to monitor the home's electrical usage. You will see that the monitor has an antenna, positioned outside of the box, that the monitor uses to collect electrical usage information. See Figure A.
Your Energy Monitor will also be connected to at least one set of current sensors (CTs) that surround the main power cables in the panel box, as shown. If your system is using the monitor's middle port to collect additional data, perhaps from a solar unit or a generator, for example, there may be two sets of sensors in use.

Note: The monitor box may also be placed outside and near to the panel in cases where the panel has no room. See Figure B. |

If this property uses such a monitor to access Sense technology, even if it looks different from what's pictures, then please:
Choose the "Energy Monitor" button

Sense will then guide you to the next step in this setup process.
Option 2: Electric Meter
Another way to access Sense technology is directly through a Sense Enabled Smart Meter, if the home's utility company has provided such a meter. If Sense is in the meter, there is no need for the monitor hardware described in Option 1.

If this property's meter is already enabled with Sense technology, then please:
Choose the Smart Meter button

Sense will then guide you to the next step in this setup process.
