Devices: How do I merge (or unmerge) devices?

If Sense identifies multiple components of a device separately (i.e., the heat and motor components of your dryer or heating system) or detects a device multiple times, you may want to merge them into one device. Merging, which can be undone if needed, aggregates the stats of the combined devices, making them easier to track and monitor.

To merge a device

Using the mobile app for iOS or Android:

1. Select Devices from the menu at the bottom of the App screen.
2. From the devices list, select the device you need to merge other devices into, which navigates you to a page with details of that device.
3. At the device detail view, tap the gear icon in the top right corner. This brings you to the Device Settings page. 
4. Select the Manage tab to the right of the Details tab.
5. On the Manage page, tap Merge Device. There may be a number in parentheses next to the Merge Device command, which tells you how many components you've previously already merged into this device.
   • If the device has not been merged with other components, simply press "Merge Device" and  the new component device(s) you want to merge into the primary device.
   • If the device is already a merged device, press "Merge Device" and  de-select each component previously merged.
   • Now select all device components that should be combined into the newly merged primary device (this means re-selecting elements from the previous merge).
6. Tap Done to complete the merge.     

You can rename the merged device, set notifications for it, and perform any other function as you would with any other device.

To unmerge a device 

Using the mobile app for iOS or Android:

1. Navigate to the Devices screen.
2. From the devices list, select the device you want to unmerge.
3. At the device detail view, tap the gear icon in the top right corner. This brings you to the Device Settings page.
4. Tap Unmerge Device near the bottom.
5. System asks if you want to Unmerge Device, and you should press Yes.
6. System returns you to your device listing, which now includes all the devices you unmerged.

You can rename any device, set notifications for it, and perform any other device function.
