An accurate reporting of kWh over time is a powerful way to understand your energy habits in the Sense app.
Sense defaults your electricity cost to your national or state average. For more accurate cost reporting, you should update your default electricity cost to your specific utility cost. You can also add clarity to your Sense reports by telling the app what day of each month your new billing cycle begins.
Here's the path:
1. Navigate to Settings > Electricity Info
2. To set a monthly start date, choose Billing Cycle Start and select the day of month when your billing cycle begins (this should be listed on your statement).
3. To change an electricity rate, choose Default Electricity Cost and insert the rate listed on your statement, which should already be in cents, including any fraction of a cent added at the end.
NOTE: The Sense app lists your rate using cents not dollars to match the way your utility company bills kWh. In other words, to report a rate 21.68 kWh is to report just over 21 cents per kWh. That decimal showing the fraction is sometimes confusing, but you should not add a zero or a decimal point before the 21.68 as if to translate from dollars. If you do that, your rate will display inaccurately.
