What is it?
Watt Check allows users to easily identify how much power is used by certain devices in their home, regardless of whether the device has been detected by the Sense Home app. It helps consumers identify opportunities to save energy consumption to save money, which helps save money and the planet!
You can run Watt Check on a number of devices in your home that turn on and off easily, including a light (or set of lights), space heater, fan, hair dryer, power tool, vacuum, or toaster–or “something else”, which lets you identify your own device. The process needs about only about 15 seconds for each device you want to check.
Watt Check works best for devices that turn on and off quickly with the push of a button or a switch. Appliances that run in the background like water heaters and fridges, and things that run in cycles like laundry machines, won’t work well for Watt Check.
NOTE: The option to choose “something else” supports internal research. If you try measuring something else that’s not on the list of suggestions, be sure to let us know what you checked so we can improve on the devices Sense users are most interested in. If your measurement generates a result, please let us know if you found the result useful!
How Do I Use Watt Check?
Step 1 - Go to the Dashboard in your Sense Home app and scroll to the Watt Check card
Step 2 - Click “Get Started”, twice and choose a device type from the list, click continue.
Step 3 - Once you see the “I’m ready” screen, follow the prompts to turn the device on, then off.
Result Or Error
Watt Check will return a results screen that includes wattage used and estimated costs. For the best cost estimate, be sure to adapt the default usage setting to better estimate how much time your household uses the device.
Once you have a result, you can choose to check another device, or return to the dashboard.
If you receive an error, you can choose to check the same device, or a different device, or return to the dashboard. If you do receive an error, you may want to wait till the household is “quieter” electrically, such as later in the evening, then try again.
NOTE: Watt Check is a separate feature from device detection. The device(s) you check will not automatically appear on your detected Devices list.
