If your Sense Home Energy Monitor appears offline in the mobile or web app, experiences intermittent connectivity, or fails to report real-time data, performing a quick power cycle (reboot) is often the fastest way to restore normal operation.
Because the Sense monitor is hardwired into your electrical panel, it does not have a physical power button or reset switch. Instead, you can safely power cycle the unit using your electrical breaker panel.
Safety First: Electrical Safety Notice:
- Homeowners can safely toggle breaker switches from the exterior of the panel.
- Never remove the protective metal cover (dead-front) of your electrical panel.
- If you are uncomfortable working near your electrical panel or cannot locate the correct breaker, please contact a licensed electrician or reach out to Sense Support.
- We strongly recommend consulting a qualified electrician for any work inside your electrical panel.
Step-by-Step Instructions: Power-Cycling Your Monitor
Follow these steps to safely power-cycle your Sense monitor:
Locate the Sense Circuit Breaker
- Open the door to your electrical breaker panel.
- Locate the dedicated 240V double-pole
(or 120V shared)breaker powering your Sense monitor.
Tip: During installation, this breaker should have been labeled "Sense", "Energy Monitor", or "Solar / Sense".
Switch the Breaker Off
- Switch the breaker firmly to the OFF position.
- If your Sense monitor shares a breaker with another appliance, safely turn off that appliance before flipping the switch.
Wait 30 Seconds
Leave the breaker in the OFF position for 30 seconds to allow the monitor's internal capacitors to discharge fully and clear temporary memory.
Switch the Breaker Back On
- Switch the breaker firmly back to the ON position.
- Listen for the chime indicating system start-up.
Allow Time to Reconnect
Allow 3 to 5 minutes for the monitor to initialize its hardware, connect to your local Wi-Fi network, and re-establish communication with the Sense cloud server.
Verifying Your Connection in the Sense App
After waiting 3 to 5 minutes, confirm that your monitor is back online:
- Open the Sense Home app or sign in to the Sense Web App.
- Tap the Settings gear icon in the top corner.
- Select My Home > Sense Monitor.
- Review the Status field:
- Connected: Your monitor is online and actively streaming power data.
- Offline: The monitor has not re-established a cloud connection (see the troubleshooting steps below).
Troubleshooting: What to Do If the Monitor Remains Offline
If your monitor remains offline following a power cycle, check the following troubleshooting options:
Verify Your Home Wi-Fi Network
- Confirm that your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network is active and broadcasting. Sense monitors require a standard 2.4 GHz connection.
- If you recently changed your network name (SSID), password, or router, update your monitor's network settings in the app via: Settings > My Home > Sense Monitor > Network > Change Wi-Fi.
Check for Wi-Fi Signal Degradation
Metal electrical panels can weaken Wi-Fi signals. Ensure that the monitor's external antenna extends outside the panel enclosure rather than remaining inside.
If your router was recently moved or new signal barriers exist, adjust the external antenna position or consider installing a Wi-Fi range extender near the panel.
