Welcome to Sense! Before you can start monitoring your home's energy usage, the Sense app needs to connect to your energy data source.
There are two ways to connect Sense. This guide will help you choose the correct setup path based on how you are connecting to Sense.
Path 1: Connecting Through Your Electric Smart Meter
Choose this path if your electricity provider has installed a new Sense-enabled smart meter for your home. You likely received a notification from your utility confirming that your meter is compatible with Sense.
You should choose "Electric Meter" if:
- You were notified by your electricity provider about a new smart meter.
- Before getting started, you’ll need to download the free Sense Home app on your phone or tablet from either the Apple App store or the Google App store.
- You are connecting directly through your utility provider without installing any hardware yourself.
In the app, you will be asked to select your electricity provider to begin the connection process.
Path 2: Connecting with a Sense Home Energy Monitor
Choose this path if you have purchased and installed a Sense Home Energy Monitor in your home's electrical panel.
You should choose "Home Energy Monitor" if:
- The Sense Home app is available to download at no cost (use your phone or tablet) from either the Apple App store or the Google App store.
- Your licensed electrician physically installed a Sense monitor with current sensors in your main electrical panel.
- You purchased the monitor directly from Sense or a retailer.
