Sense supports some--but not all--Kasa smart plugs. Kasa Matter smart plugs, whose product numbers end with an M (e.g., TP-Link Kasa KP-125M) are not supported.
Sense is currently compatible with:
These are the only smart plugs or strips that we support at present.
The only smart plugs that can be used with Sense are plugs that monitor energy, as no other will work. Sense does not support any TP-Link Tapo plugs.
To use a supported smart plug
- Go to Settings > Connected Devices, and enable the integration for TP-Link Kasa smart plugs.
- It will take a few minutes for Sense to add your new smart plug devices to your device list.
- Once added, these devices will function like any other device in Sense. The added bonus is that you will also be able to control the device (turning it on/off) right from the Sense app, by tapping the on/off button (shown on both the device list or detailed device view).
- If a device that is detected via a smart plug is also natively detected by Sense, you will need to let Sense know it is the same device, otherwise total wattage count will be inaccurate. To do this open the Sense app > Devices > [choose a device] > Settings (gear icon, upper right) > Manage > "What's connected to this?" > Select all devices that apply.
We encourage you to answer this so that you can better categorize the device, help Sense learn, and also ensure that you do not have any duplicate devices.
-
- Assign the smart plug to an already detected device. This merges smart plug data with identified device.
- Assign the smart plug to a new device and specify what that device is. This treats the smart plug as an individual device.
- Assign to a power strip that has many different devices on it. This treats the smart plug as as a composite device. If any of these devices have been detected previously, select them from the "Sense Detected Devices" list below. Historical data from these devices will be merged with the new power strip device.
5. Choose one of the options on the “What's connected to this?” screen.
6. You can control the frequency of timeline notifications and bubble behavior of smart plug devices with the Standby feature.

If you are experiencing strange or incorrect wattage numbers, please check to make sure your smart plugs have the latest firmware. You can do this via the Kasa and Wemo apps.
