To give you real-time energy insights, your Sense-enabled smart meter uses your home’s Wi-Fi network to send data to the Sense Home app. This connection allows Sense to display your energy usage on your phone or tablet—accurately, securely, and instantly.
Why Do I Need My Network Name and Password?
During setup, you’ll be prompted to:
-
Select your Wi-Fi network (SSID)
-
Enter your Wi-Fi password
This is how your meter connects to your home’s Wi-Fi, allowing Sense to display your home’s energy data securely in the app. For security reasons, Sense does not support open networks or mobile hotspots.
This step ensures that no one else can access information about your household’s energy usage.
How Can I Find My Wi-Fi Network Name and Password?
Before starting setup, we recommend you locate your Wi-Fi credentials:
Where to Find Your Network Name (SSID):
-
On your device, open Wi-Fi settings and look at available networks
-
Identify your home’s network—pay attention to capitalization, punctuation, or special characters
Where to Find Your Wi-Fi Password:
-
On your router: Often printed on a label with the network name
-
In your records: Check saved notes, photos, or your password manager
-
In cloud-based apps: If stored in LastPass, iCloud Keychain, etc. (but remember, you’ll need access before starting setup!)
-
Ask your ISP: If you're stuck, your Internet Service Provider can help you reset or recover your password
What to Expect During Setup
For a few minutes, your mobile device will pair directly with the meter, which means:
-
You won’t have internet access on that device during this step
-
You can’t access cloud-stored passwords (like Google Photos or LastPass)
-
You must stay within 5–15 feet of your meter
-
Moving away could interrupt setup and require restarting
-
Tip: Locate and write down your Wi-Fi credentials before you begin setup to avoid any interruptions.
