What you need to know:
What Is an Electric Meter?
Every home has one. It’s the device that measures how much electricity your home uses—usually a metal box with a digital or dial display.

📍 Important: Your electric meter is not the same as your electrical panel (also called a circuit breaker box).

Where Can I Find My Electric Meter?
Single-family homes:
- Outside wall, porch, utility room, or closet
Multi-unit buildings:
- Basement, garage, or shared utility room (one meter per unit)
Meter banks:
- Sometimes housed in a utility-controlled box away from the home
How Close Should I Be During Setup?
To connect using the Sense Home app:
- Stay within 5–15 feet of the meter
- Keep a clear line of sight—no walls or obstructions
- Don’t touch the meter (your device connects wirelessly)
- Stay still with your phone while pairing
If the meter is mounted high (like on a pole), standing below it usually works just fine.
When Should I Set Up?
Setup only takes a few minutes—but you’ll want no interruptions.
- Pick a time with good weather if your meter is outside
- If something goes wrong, you can restart setup anytime in the Sense app—no problem
