Sense is a mobile and web app that gives you real-time, personalized insights into your home’s energy usage. By analyzing your electrical signals, Sense helps you track energy usage down to individual appliances—so you can make smarter, more efficient energy choices.
What Sense Does
Your monthly electric bill tells you how much energy you use—but not how it’s used. That’s where Sense comes in. By reading your home’s electrical patterns, Sense breaks down energy use in real time, showing:
-
Which devices are on or off
-
How long and how often they run
-
How much energy they consume
Over time as you engage with Sense, you’ll uncover new ways to reduce waste, lower your bill, and shrink your carbon footprint.
How Sense Works on a Smart Meter
You may be eligible to use the Sense Home app if your electricity provider has recently installed a Sense-enabled smart meter at your home and has invited you to connect.
Once you’re eligible, the setup process involves three steps:
-
Create a Sense account using your mobile device and log in to the Sense Home app
-
Link your utility account to Sense using secure, industry-standard authentication
-
Connect your smart meter to your home’s Wi-Fi network
Once connected, Sense starts analyzing your home’s energy in real time.
What You’ll See
Power Meter
Immediately after setup, the Power Meter in the Sense app shows how many watts your home is using—updated by the second. You’ll see live and historical data across:
-
Minute
-
Hour
-
Day
-
Week
-
Month

Device Detection
As Sense learns your home’s usage patterns, it begins to identify individual appliances by their electrical “signature.” When a device is detected, Sense will ask you to help name it based on your knowledge of what’s in your home.
This lets you track which devices are using the most energy—and when.
Why It Matters
With device-level data, you can start making more informed energy decisions:
-
Run appliances during off-peak hours when rates are lower
-
Delay usage during periods of high carbon intensity
-
Upgrade to energy-efficient appliances with confidence, tracking the savings
Why Your Electricity Provider Wants You to Use Sense
