Sense is partnering with a growing number of electricity providers across the U.S. to bring real-time energy insights to your home—at no extra cost to you. If your electricity provider has installed a Sense-enabled smart meter, you may be able to connect to the free Sense Home app and start monitoring your energy use.
Note: Make sure that you are home near your electric meter before you try to connect to Sense.
Am I Eligible?
👉NOTE: Check whether your electricity provider is offering Sense here.
- If your provider isn't listed and you'd like to be notified when your home may become eligible, add your contact information here.
Another way to know you’re eligible is if you can answer yes to the following four questions:
- Have you received an email from your electricity provider telling you about Sense?
- Has your electricity provider recently installed a Sense-enabled smart meter at your home?
- Has your electricity provider invited you to connect your smart meter to Sense?
- Does your home have Wi-Fi that you can connect to your smart meter?*
*We have provided a Wi-Fi guide you can check out: What A Smart Meter Needs to Connect to Sense
📍 Important: At this time, Sense-enabled smart meters don’t support homes with solar panels. We’re working on future support, so please stay tuned.
- If you have opted out of remote metering with your electricity provider, you will not be eligible to set up Sense.
- If you’ve tried to update your phone number with Sense and received a notification that it can’t be changed here, that’s because your contact information is managed by your utility directly.
- Sense is not able to make those account changes for you due to privacy concerns, so reaching out to your utility provider directly will help ensure your information is up to date.
I'm Not Eligible, but Want to Get Started With Sense
My Meter Requires A Software Update To Work With Sense?
Sense works with AMI smart meters in specific service areas, based on partnerships with local electricity providers. Even within eligible ZIP codes, not every meter becomes ready at the same time.
That’s because smart meter upgrades are:
- Managed directly by your electricity provider, not Sense
- Rolled out in pre-defined batches
- Dependent on location, timing, communications, and software availability
If you’re told that your meter needs a software update, it means:
👉: SOFTWARE_INELIGIBLE
- Your meter has been identified in the Sense system as ineligible
- Your utility hasn’t yet completed the required software upgrade for your meter
This message will be seen by all customers who attempt to connect before the software upgrade has been completed.
Sense will flag these users in our system, and once your utility completes the upgrade for your area, you’ll automatically receive an email from us letting you know you’re ready to proceed; no further action will be needed on your end.
What Happens Next
Once your utility completes the meter software upgrade for your meter:
- Your meter will automatically become ready for Sense
- You’ll receive an email from Sense letting you know you’re ready to connect
