If you have a Sense Home Energy Monitor installed, you can now use the monitor's middle port to track up to two separate 120V and/or 240V circuits in your electrical panel.
Installation Requirements
-
The middle port must not be in use for solar, generator monitoring, 400A split-service monitoring, or any other feature.
-
Professional installation recommended: Sense strongly advises having an electrician perform the setup.
-
Not available for smart meter users: This feature is only accessible to those with a Sense Home Energy Monitor installed in their electrical panel—not through a smart electric meter.
For step-by-step setup instructions, refer to the Sense Dedicated Circuit Monitoring Installation Guide.
What is a Dedicated Circuit?
A dedicated circuit is a circuit in your electrical panel that is assigned to a single appliance or outlet and protected by its own circuit breaker. No other devices share power from this circuit, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
Which Devices Require a Dedicated Circuit?
Electrical codes often require that large appliances have their own circuit, especially those with motors. Common devices that typically need a dedicated circuit include:
-
Kitchen & Laundry
-
Electric ranges, wall ovens, large microwaves, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, garbage disposals, toaster ovens
-
Washers, dryers
-
-
Heating & Cooling
-
Heating and air conditioning units, furnaces, water heaters, sump pumps, water pumps
-
-
Other Large Appliances
-
Central vacuums, hot tubs, saunas
-
If you’re unsure whether a specific appliance requires a dedicated circuit, consult your appliance manual or an electrician.
