Connecting the Sense Home app and your Sense-enabled smart meter to your home's Wi-Fi is necessary to provide you with the powerful, personalized home energy insights you expect from us.
Following is a checklist of ways to ensure your home's Wi-Fi is optimized:
Wi-Fi Requirements, briefly
-
You'll need strong and consistent signal strength. To get this, your Wi-Fi and your Sense-enabled meter should be within around 20 feet of each other. You may need to consider a Wi-Fi extender if you cannot position the router within your home so that it's close enough to the meter.
-
You must have a Wi-Fi router that you can configure, if needed, to set encryption and to point Sense to the band that allows distance (2.4GHz) instead of download speed. If you've purchased a router within the past three years or so, this likely won't be an issue. If you aren't sure, you can Google the make and model of your router to find the user's manual.
-
Your Wi-Fi will need a password. To ensure data security, Sense cannot be used on an open access Wi-FI network or a personal hotspot.
NOTE: If you are not sure how to address the following Wi-Fi essentials, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for guidance.
