The Sense Home app continuously learns about your home’s electrical appliances by identifying their unique “signatures” as they turn on and off.
What to Expect in the First Few Minutes
Live Energy Tracking: Shortly after activating your Sense system, the power meter in the app will begin recording your home’s power consumption. You can immediately start observing energy usage by turning devices on and off in real time.
Hard-to-Track Devices: Some low-wattage electronics—like computers, smart devices, and game consoles—can be more challenging for Sense to detect.
Device Learning & Collaboration
- Gradual Detection: The device detection process takes days to weeks, as Sense analyzes your home’s energy patterns.
- Personalized Insights: When setting up your account, Sense asks about major appliances in your home. Your responses help Sense provide early insights into your home’s energy use.
-
Refining Device Identification: As Sense detects appliance signatures, you can:
- ✅ Name devices for better organization
- ✅ Merge related components (e.g., a clothes dryer’s motor, heating element, and light can be grouped under “Clothes Dryer”)
Improving Accuracy Over Time
- Machine Learning: Sense’s detection improves as it gathers more data. Learn more about Machine Learning technology [here].
- Smart Plug Integration: If a device is hard to track, consider using a smart plug for more precise monitoring.
- Direct Circuit Monitoring: If your Sense system is installed in your electrical panel, you may be able to monitor large (240V) devices directly.
- Important to Note: While Sense improves with more data, it may not identify every single device in your home due to the complexity of electrical signals.
