To deliver accurate, real-time energy insights, the Sense Home app relies on a stable and secure Wi-Fi connection to your Sense-enabled smart meter or installed Sense Home Energy Monitor. Ensuring your home’s Wi-Fi is optimized is key to unlocking the full benefits of your Sense experience.
✅ A Quick Wi-Fi Checklist
1. Strong, Consistent Signal Strength
-
Your router or access point should be located within approximately 20 feet of your Sense-enabled meter.
-
If your router is farther away or if there are walls or obstacles between the devices, consider using a Wi-Fi extender to boost signal strength.
2. A Configurable Router
-
You’ll need a router that supports network encryption and allows you to select the 2.4GHz band, which provides better range than 5GHz.
-
Most routers purchased within the last 3 years meet these requirements.
-
Not sure? Look up the make and model of your router online to find its user manual, or refer to our guide:

3. A Secure Network
-
Your Wi-Fi network must be password-protected.
-
Open networks or mobile hotspots are not supported for data security and reliability reasons.
Need Help?
If you’re unsure how to adjust your network settings, we recommend contacting your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for assistance. They can help confirm your router is up-to-date and correctly configured for devices like Sense.
Optimizing your Wi-Fi ensures a smooth setup and reliable performance for your Sense system—and will likely improve performance for other smart devices in your home as well.
