If you have an active Sense system in your home, whether your Sense comes via your Sense-enabled electric meter or via an installed Sense Home Energy Monitor, there are some scenarios where you may want to reset your Sense data -- but beware! Reset is much like a reboot where data is deleted.
We do not recommend a data reset unless there is a change in your home's setup.
If you’re having issues with device detection and want to remove a specific device, refer to this article.
WARNING: Once data is deleted via reset, it cannot be restored. Check here for instructions on how to save your historic data at the Web app before you reset your Sense system. |
When to reset data
- You’re moving:
- If your Sense is on a Sense-enabled electric meter, you will want to clear the data before you move to allow the next residents to set up their own Sense system.
- If your Sense is on a monitor installed in your electrical panel, you may want to take if with you and install it in your new home's electrical panel. You should start over in your new environment.
-
These additional options are for you only if you have installed a Sense Home Energy monitor into your electrical panel. Reset your Sense data if:
- You have adjusted one or more circuits and/or panel(s) or otherwise made changes to your electrical panel configuration. Such changes can cause discrepancies, because appliances might get moved onto different phases during the electrical work, etc.
- You decide to re-sell your Sense Home Energy Monitor.
How to reset data
The Sense Home app provides two ways to reset your data.
NOTE: Each option requires that your Sense system be online, or it will not work.
- Factory Reset [Monitor users only] is just that: you are returning your installed Sense Home Energy Monitor to the state it was in as it first left the factory. It will no longer be associated with you, and your Sense account will be deleted. So, use this option if you sell your Sense Monitor. This makes it possible for a buyer to install the Monitor and set up a new account with Sense.
- Reset Data is the option to use when moving to a new home. Even though you will likely take many of the same appliances to your new home, the infrastructure will be different, and you will want to start over with device detection. Your Sense account will remain in place, and several important pieces of information will persist, including:
-
- Solar sell-back rate
- Cost
- Location
- Time of use rate zones
- Enabled integrations
NOTE: Either option clears all historical power data and device detection from the monitor, so you’ll want to choose the reset option that reflects how your Sense system will be used going forward.
How to reset the monitor
CAUTION: Your Sense system must be online for any data reset to work properly and to avoid a "locked" monitor that must be returned to Sense to be unlocked.
Once you decide which setting is best, you’ll find your options here:
Settings > System > [scroll to bottom, then choose]
- Reset Data
- Factory Reset
Alternatively, you can delete your account and clear your data here (this is the same as a factory reset):
Settings > Account > Delete Account and Erase Data
FINAL NOTE: If you had your Sense system before 2024, then when you reset your data you will discover that the device detection process begins somewhat differently from what you experienced at first. As we've gathered results from more and more homes, we have been able to enhance the earliest stages of detection. Please answer the few brief questions about your home's appliances, when asked, and the Sense system will begin to communicate information about your appliances promptly.
