If you choose to end your use of Sense at your current address, whether due to a move or transferring ownership (if you use a Sense Energy monitor), please ensure that your account and device are updated to reflect the change while the monitor is still connected to Wi-Fi. For certain customers, device removal may not be possible, and our help center will guide you through the appropriate steps for your situation.
Your Sense system is uniquely tuned to your home—its electrical setup, devices, and appliances. So, when you move, you’ll need to set up a new Sense system in your next home.
This requires two key considerations:
- While your system is still connected to Wi-Fi, decide what to do with your existing data
- Get ready to set up your new Sense system
Neither is complicated, but a little planning goes a long way. The following topics will try to answer your questions.
What Happens to Your Existing Data?
When your Sense system is reset—either by you or your electricity provider (if your Sense is on your meter)—all data is permanently deleted. You have two options:
- Skip data preservation: If you don’t need to keep historical data, simply reset your home’s data using the Sense Home app.
- Download your data: If you’d like to compare energy use between homes, download your data before you reset. You can use the Sense Web App to download a spreadsheet (.csv file) with your data. Learn how here.
What To Do
Whether you are moving or terminating your use of Sense at your current address, please follow the data deletion process while Sense is still connected to your home's Wi-Fi:
Settings > System > Reset Data
If your Sense is in your smart meter, Sense will remove energy data associated with your previous residence once a move is detected. This ensures your home's data is no longer accessible to others.

Important Notes
- Once data is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Be sure to download any needed data before resetting.
- Your Sense system must be online during the reset. Avoid resetting when your system is offline.
Setting Up a New Sense System
There are two ways to get Sense running in your new home:
-
Sense-enabled smart meter
- If your new home has an eligible Sense-enabled smart meter, simply reset your old data, then open the Sense Home app and select Create Account to set up your new system. 📍You can learn whether your utility company offers Sense for your home in this article.
-
- Be sure to do this from your new home with your active Wi-Fi connection.
-
Sense Home Energy Monitor
- If your new home doesn’t have a Sense-enabled smart meter, you can install a Sense Home Energy Monitor in your electrical panel to continue tracking your energy use.
With a fresh Sense setup, you’ll get real-time insights into your new home’s energy use—helping you stay in control from day one.
