If you've received a Signal Strength Low error during your network connection test, here's what you should know:
Electrical panels are electrically noisy places and, as you might imagine, your Sense system needs a strong Wi-Fi connection in order to overcome any potential interference in the radio frequency.
If your Sense system is reporting a low signal strength:
-
A signal strength lower than -70dBm indicates that the router or access point is too far from the Sense system to reliably connect.
- To remedy this, we recommend moving your router closer to your Sense system.
- Or, you could install another Wi-Fi access point.
- If you have multiple routers or access points, make sure the one that is closest to your Sense system has a unique name (SSID), so that Sense doesn't try to connect to a different access point with less reliable signal strength.
-
If your Sense system was installed in your electrical panel (instead of being in your electric meter), double-check that:
- The Wi-Fi antenna is correctly installed and pointing outside of the electrical panel. If the antenna for your Sense unit is confined within the panel, the monitor will not be able to communicate effectively. Make sure your installer used a knockout area in the panel wall and exposed the antenna externally.
- Then confirm that your Sense device is on (look for lights), that your Wi-Fi router is working properly, and that you have a consistent internet connection.
